The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN), following the publication of a paper in the Lancet in June 2011 by Vanderpump et al., who suggested that “the UK was iodine deficient”, asked for an overview of the current evidence that some degree of iodine deficiency might affect some groups within the UK population.
