The Iodine Blog - December 2019
Dear friend of the IGN,
Today is Giving Tuesday, a day where we reflect on the impact your support has had around the world, helping to improve every child’s ability to live a healthy and productive life. With the support of our donors and partners, we are working toward the elimination of iodine deficiency, which is the leading cause of brain damage worldwide.
This year, we wanted to share an important personal perspective with you from one of our biggest champions, Dr. Chandrakant Pandav. A Community Medicine Physician supporting research and programs to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) since 1983 in over 60 countries, Dr. Pandav has been awarded numerous accolades during his career, not the least of which are the Mother Theresa Memorial Award of his work on Universal Salt Iodization (USI), and the WHO Public Health Champion award for his contribution to public health.
We were fortunate enough to connect with Dr. Pandav to get his perspective on why Universal Salt Iodization is so important, how salt iodization programming has benefited communities the world over, and how you can make a difference. His words are truly inspiring.
We hope you will take a moment to read about Dr. Pandav’s passion for the important work we are doing, as well as how your support can have a substantial impact toward eliminating iodine deficiency worldwide.
