The Executive Director of the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD), Prof. Dr. Michael Zimmermann has praised Thailand for its successful efforts to eliminate Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD). He suggested that Thailand hold a cooperative conference with the IDD prevention network both locally and internationally.
The Director-General of the Department of Health (DOH) Pornthep Siriwanarangsan said that the department has been focusing on five measures to prevent cases of IDD. These include IDD monitoring in pregnant women by supplying iodine supplement tablets to pregnant women and up to six months after labor, use of iodized salt in lunches at 20,000 nurseries nationwide, monitoring the usage of iodized salt in households, campaigns that promote the use of iodized salt in households, and quality control of iodized seasoning products.
