Philippines mandates iodized salt add more iodine

The Philippines Food and Drug Administration on March 12 ordered salt manufacturers to increase the minimum amount of iodine fortifying iodized salt from its current 20 ppm to 30 ppm. The upper allowable limit remains unchanged at 70 ppm.

The 2008 National Nutrition study found that while 80.97 percent of table salt was iodized only about one-fourth met the WHO minimum standard of 15 ppm (despite the national mandate to iodize at 20 ppm or more).
