For many years, the Philippines' National Nutrition Council Region 2 maintained a task force which actively enforced the nation's salt iodization mandate and did public education. Prominent among the interventions was a network of roadway checkpoints, the Philippines Information Agency explained. "We used to send back truckloads of salt not iodized," a spokesperson explained, adding that they "no longer (had) confiscations because all salts coming in were already iodized." Now there is renewed concern so the task force is being reactivated.
