The USI was achieved in Kazakhstan in 2006 thanks to a series of join efforts taken by state bodies, the Kazakh Nutrition Academy and support from international agencies, including UNICEF. Data received from the Multi-Indicator Cluster Survey showed that around 92 per cent of Kazakh household consume correctly iodized salt. In 2011 the Kazakh Nutrition Academy’s iodine laboratory became a resource centre on iodine in the region of Central and Eastern Europe and CIS. This strategic decision was taken as a result of the Academy’s image, hard work and successful involvement in achieving USI in Kazakshtan.
