Sudan has a new, ambitious salt iodization plan sponsored by ICCIDD and funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). ICCIDD Regional Coordinator Dr. Izzeldin Hussein heads the partnership effort that also includes the UN's World Food Programme, UNICEF and the World Health Organization and the Micronutrient Initiative, a Canadian-based NGO.
ICCIDD has conducted intensive advocacy and training for the program to bring iodized salt to all areas of strife-riven Sudan in conjunction with efforts by Sudan's National Nutrition program. The program features enhanced monitoring of salt iodization and IDD prevalence.
